Red Ribbon Week, whose message is keeping students drug-free and enjoying life, is planned for Dinuba High School October 28 to November 1, 2024.
Red Ribbon Week was created to spread drug awareness across the country and to educate people about how dangerous drugs are to anyone. Red Ribbon began when a drug enforcement officer named Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. His death inspired communities to battle against illegal drugs, beginning with educating youth and encouraging them to stay drug-free. The annual Red Ribbon campaign was created in 1985 and in 1988 National Family Partnership sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Week. Since then, Red Ribbon has touched millions of lives throughout the world. The importance of this program is to spread awareness to communities across the world about the problem and dangers of drug use, which has claimed many lives across the country.
DHS will celebrate Red Ribbon Week with fun dress-up days. Students are encouraged to participate. The theme for Monday, October 28th, is Too Educated for Drugs and students will dress as teachers while the teachers will dress as students. Tuesday is Drugs Can’t Find Me with students encouraged to dress in their best camo-wear so that you can hide from dangerous drugs, Wednesday is Team Up Against Drugs where students can wear the jersey of their favorite sports team. Thursday is Drugs Are a Trick, Life’s a Treat to celebrate Halloween. Finally, Friday’s theme is Follow Your Dreams; Stay Drug-Free and everyone can wear their pajamas to school. Along with the fun dress-up days will be lunchtime activities put on by the ASB.
Red Ribbon Week is a celebration of living without using drugs. Support and participate during this important week.
