TULARE COUNTY FAIR
The Tulare County Fair is a week-long experience where those involved in FFA (Future Farmers of America), who have raised livestock go out and showcase their animals. They also have a chance to make some money for themselves by selling their animal.
The 2024 Tulare County Fair went on from September 9th to September 15th. Dinuba FFA’s President, Elizabeth Quintero stated, “This year we had 23 students. This included both current students and graduated students because they started their project during their Senior year. And we had seven steer kids, ten breeder goats, three sheep, seven pigs, and seven market goats. Our
beef kids have had their livestock for eleven months, the other livestock kids got their livestock in June.” It was a very busy time for all FFA members, but well worth the experience. “Getting to see the showmen and seeing what they’ve learned throughout the summer has definitely been one of my favorite memories.” She also explained that depending on livestock species, showmen have to have a certain posture.
As for preparations and the set up for this event, students and advisors went and put their own time aside so they could properly coordinate. Events like this take time, it’s a wonderful experience for those in FFA to have an opportunity to showcase their talents.
MEET THE NEW ADVISOR
This year, the Dinuba FFA welcomed Miss Garcia with warm and open arms.
Miss Garcia is teaching AG Discovery, Animal and Vet Science, and AG Biology. She will also be coaching Discovery Opening/Closing, Spanish Creed, BIG, Job Interview, and Market Plan. Along with these, she will be advising Market Goats and Sheep for the Tulare County Fair.
“My old AG teachers inspired me to become an AG teacher, my teachers were Mrs. Borba and Mrs. Wilterding.” said Miss. Garcia, a DHS alumni. “It was when I joined FFA that made me realize that I wanted to be an AG teacher.” It took some time, but eventually, Miss. Garcia was able to find her passion and she did so by not giving up on that dream.
It is an honor to have someone like Miss. Garcia among the DHS Alumni staff!
