Dinuba High School’s NJROTC has been very active in the past few months. Here is a list of some of the events they were involved with:
The Jefferson Carnival
Several times a year Dinuba Unified elementary schools ask the NJROTC unit to help at their carnivals. The Jefferson Carnival was held on October 4th, 2024. NJ cadets helped out at food booths serving food to the families there at the carnival! They also helped out with the drinks, serving ice-cold drinks to families in the heat. The cadets also took charge of some of the games that they had at the carnival. After the carnival was done the cadets stayed after to help clean up the trash that was left behind.
The Selma Bear Challenge
The Selma Bear Challenge was a meet up between other ROTCs from different high schools. There were courses and challenges that the students had to face. This event was held on the 5th of October. There was the bear challenge which was a rigorous obstacle course that the cadets had to go through. There was also Cap the T which is a competition that involved marching. Other activities were the bean bag toss and color guard. Overall the unit won two medals.
NJROTC at Homecoming Football Game
On October 11th NJROTC cadets did several activities at the HOCO Football Game. The color guard had performed as usual. They also presented the colors as they marched. During half-time cadets did sword detail. They dressed in dress blues as they did sword detail.
The Navy’s Birthday
Every year on the 13th of October, Dinuba’s NJROTC celebrates the Navy’s birthday. However, due to the Navy’s birthday being on a Sunday, the NJ cadets had to celebrate another day during that same week. The NJ cadets met up at the NJ building at 3:30 on the 16th of October. They fell into their platoons and honored the Navy. The youngest cadet and XO, the NJROTC Executive officer, cut the cake. The NJ cadets then continued the celebration by having a potluck.
Veteran’s day
As usual, the NJROTC cadets honored Veteran’s Day. The ceremony was held in front of the DHS main building during first period. The choir performed the national anthem as the flag was raised and the NJ cadets saluted. Several cadets gave speeches and honored the veterans who served and several teachers who had served in the army.
