This year, the DHS soccer teams have been preparing for the upcoming season. They have been practicing since the summer.
Girl’s Team
Varsity Head Coach Claudia Diaz says she’s most excited for “all the memories that we’re going to make and just the sport. I’m excited to see how the girls are going to perform as well.”
In preparation for this season the coach mentioned having a summer program that’s about a month long. They started pre-season in early September and have been practicing ever since. Each practice is detailed depending on where they are in the sport. One of the captains, Jennifer Rea who plays center back, said she’s looking most forward to “winning more games than we did last season and just a better bond on the field.”
JV coach Misael Gutierrez stated, “I’m looking forward to the experience, this is my first year coaching JV soccer. I’m also looking forward to seeing what the players can do.” Team captain, Natalie Zaragoza, who plays center back said, “Honestly yeah, because we’ve been doing pre-season workouts.” She’s also looking forward to the bond she and the girls will make.
Although frosh’s soccer season won’t start until early December, frosh coach Karina Vieyra said, “I’m looking forward to my frosh team building up their skills. A lot of them are beginners at soccer. I want to see a lot of growth and hopefully win some games.” Coach Vieyra also mentioned some schools don’t have freshmen soccer teams so they don’t have a set schedule yet.
Boy’s Team
The boy’s team started their season November 14th with scrimmage against Washington Union. The score was 2-1 with Washington Union taking the win over Dinuba but this loss will help the team learn and be better in the future.
Soccer season has officially started so make sure you come out and show some love to our Emperors at their next games.
