Marissa Rodriguez Crowned Miss Tulare County Teen

After weeks of preparation, Marissa Rodriguez took center stage and won the title of Miss Tulare County Teen, making history as one of the first winners from Dinuba in many years. The March 1, 2025 competition, in front of a packed audience, tested content confidence, stage performances, and public speaking skills. Rodriguez, who had never performed in front of such a large crowd before, took on the challenge with her determination.

Rodriguez shared her reasons for entering the competition. “I wanted to bring awareness to my town,” she explained, “I knew it had been a long time since Dinuba had a winner, and I wanted to show everyone that we’re here and we can achieve great things.”

For her, competing wasn’t just about the glamour of pageants. She was first driven to be a role model for others and represent the community with pride. Later, she found out her mother had been in a pageant while she was alive, which motivated her all the more to want the experience.

Throughout the competition, Rodriguez faced numerous personal challenges. “The most challenging part was preparing myself mentally,” she admitted. “I had to overcome my nerves and show confidence because pageants aren’t just about looks, they are about how you carry yourself and how confident you are.” She added that she worked hard to prepare physically for the fitness portion but emphasized that physical appearance was only a small part of the overall picture. “It’s all about how you present yourself and your inner confidence,” she said.

One of Rodriguez’s most nerve-wracking events was answering the impromptu questions on stage.” It was so scary,” she recalled. You only have 20 seconds to answer, and you have to do it perfectly. But when I nailed it, I felt so proud of myself.”

Rodriguez’s win is not only a personal achievement, but she also used her platform to raise awareness for childhood grief, a cause close to her. Her advocacy for grief counseling and supporting children through their journey comes from a deeply personal place. “This title means I can raise awareness about childhood grief and help other kids cope with their loss,”  she said. Her mother’s passing several years ago has inspired her desire to write a book to help other children dealing with grief. “I want to create something that can help others the way I wished I had when I was going through it,” she shared.

Rodriguez’s pageant director, Michele French, expressed her pride in Rodriguez’s growth throughout the competition. “Marissa has shown incredible strength and dedication, ” French said. “She’s a perfect example of what it means to have inner beauty and confidence, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. She is going to do amazing things with her title.”  French added, “I’ve had past contestants, whether they won a title or not, to support our young ladies. For example, Elizabeth Sartuche-Stygar a former Miss Tulare County and Miss Central Valley’s Teen a past titleholder, came into rehearsal and helped the contestant with walking in heels, gown modeling, and fitness.” French emphasized the importance of community involvement in helping the contestants grow. “The support these women get is not just from their family but from the sisterhood they have created.”

Rodriguez’s victory has already inspired many in her community. She is determined to give back to the people who have supported her through this journey. “I felt so supported by everyone around me. I’m proud to represent my hometown and how we can achieve amazing things,” Rodriguez shared.

French added, “What I love about this program is how the young women grow through the year. They develop confidence, onstage presence, and the ability to engage with the committee. By the end of the competition, they are so much more than they were when they started.”

With the title of Miss Tulare County Teen now in her hands, Marissa Rodriguez is ready to continue her advocacy and inspire others.
