Two exceptional students from Dinuba High School have been named Teen Citizen Of The Year for the first time in years. Elizabeth Quintero and Ava Rose Arias were chosen for their outstanding dedication to their school, and community, making history by sharing the award this year.
Elizabeth Quintero has spent her high school years dedicated to service and advocacy. As a member and officer of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) club, she has worked to raise awareness about mental health issues faced by teens in Dinuba. Elizabeth is also passionate about agriculture. She has advocated for agriculture policies through legislative conferences. “My family is my inspiration and source that drives me to achieve greatness,” she shared. “Winning Dinuba’s Teen Citizen is such an honor! It is so wonderful to be recognized by my community. It fills me with pride to say I’m from Dinuba.” Elizabeth also emphasizes how community service has shaped her, saying, “ Serving my community has helped me grow not only as a leader but as an individual, and I’m excited to continue that path.”
Ava Rose Arias, a multi-sports athlete who has broken three Tteam records in water polo, has also made a significant impact in the community. In addition to her athletic achievements, Ava serves as president of the NAMI club; she leads efforts to raise awareness of mental health issues. She believes her faith is the center of her success saying, “Christ is who strengthens me in all that I do.” Arias’s commitment to survive is also reflected in her desire to support children from broken homes. “With 50% of children going through this, I believe that awareness needs to be sorted and that products of broken homes should not stop them from pursuing their dreams,” She explained. Her dedication to overcoming the personal struggles of others has made a lasting impact on the community.
Both Elizabeth and Ava have faced their challenges but have used these experiences to fuel their desire to help others. Elizabeth credits her family support for her success. “My family is my motivation and what pushes me to become the best version of myself.” Ava similarly draws support from her faith and community.
Receiving the Teen Citizen of the Year is an honor that both young women have appreciated. However, they have both emphasized that the recognition does not stop their commitment to serving the community. They are both grateful for the honor and hope to stay focused on giving back to their community.
