The Dinuba High School Mr. Emperor competition brought together a group of talented and determined contestants, each showcasing their skills, confidence, and dedication. After a night of performances, Nathaniel Rios was crowned Mr.Emperor 2025, winning over the audience and Judges with his monologue entitled “Catch Up.” His performance reflected the struggles of people in small communities who feel like they are constantly seen as less than or overlooked.
“I love performing, I love talking. I just imagine it as a conversation where hopefully the reason why I am doing it is not for the 800 seats that are there filled up or not, but for that one kid who is looked down upon. Not the best at anything, but who is picked last in PE. I’m doing it for that kid because I was that kid,” Rios shared. His performance was personal and emotional, making his win a meaningful one.
The competition was a challenge for everyone, but also became a learning experience. Jeremiah Domingcil, who earned the title of the 1st Runner-Up, spoke about the difference he faced along the way. “It taught me perseverance, The choreography was challenging.” Despite the struggles, he pushed through and delivered a strong performance. His brother, Jonathan Domingcil, received the Popp’s Prize, the award given to the contestant who has demonstrated dedication and growth. For him, one of the most memorable parts of the competition wasn’t just a performance but the friendships he formed along the way. “I remember us going to Starbucks as a group, not us just working on something but more like equal bonds as friends,” Jonathan explained. The competition became more than just an event; it was an opportunity to connect with others.
For Andrew Barajas, who was awarded second runner-up and Mr. Congeniality, the experience was just as valuable. He spoke about how the competition pushed him out of his comfort zone. “This competition challenged me to become a more outgoing person in a way. Along with doing it with three of my closest friends.” He went on to express that the sense of friendship among the contestants was one of the highlights of the experience, as they shared memories and laughter through their practices.
“What I take away from it is that every single one of these people is amazing, and every single one of these contestants deserves to win in my opinion,” Rios said before the results were announced.
As the night came to a close, each contestant left the stage knowing they had given it their all. Their dedication, performances, and friendship made Mr. Emperor 2025 a night to remember. “For everyone who watched or participated in Mr. Emperor, remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, the world isn’t ready for the change you’re going to bring. If you believe in yourself and put in the effort, only God knows how far you go,” Rios shared.
