Despite what old idioms would have you believe, money does, in fact, grow on trees. It’s the fabric of our society, so it makes sense that it’s an incredibly flimsy item and is accordingly constantly lowering in value. Money, as we know it today, first originated in 2150 BCE, and it is called a shekel, where over time it becomes the most important thing to humanity aside from pride.
The inconsistent worth of any currency has been the root of many issues: poverty, starvation, and, worst of all, wealthy people believing others want to hear their opinions. It keeps the world spinning while simultaneously preventing it from moving, mainly by funding charities for wars that were started over it and creating more charities.
The value of the currency is unclear because no one has the decency to translate it into modern-day dollars using equally modern English. Of course, the people who first invented the concept could not fathom things such as college debt, renting property, or unnecessarily expensive products with life cycles shorter than a year.
This process of money becoming worthless as prices increase is called inflation. It is a persistent issue throughout the world, but especially in America, as every single president for the last 16 years has been blamed for it getting worse. This has created the idea that the next president will fix everything, and with this idea, the political divide has never been larger: everyone believes that their favorite senile man will solve the issue.
Recently, money has been plummeting in value faster than normal, with poor decisions being made on behalf of people by a completely unknown person who has absolutely no traces of a social media presence. Naturally, this has resulted in people becoming upset and/or in denial of their situation, causing them to become angry with others to relieve the stress of likely moving down their current tax bracket.
The reasonable fear of potentially losing out on living one’s usual lifestyle has led to many rash decisions, including, but not limited to, blaming other people for their new problems, inventing new ways to torture massive numbers of people, and wiping entire countries off of maps. This is mostly done in the context of war or supporting an ally’s war, but predominantly, it seems to be just for the sake of money.
Ideally, the concept of money would’ve never been invented, but thinking about that will have you called a communist, which means your opinion doesn’t matter. Trading would also likely be ineffective since personal evaluations of items vary drastically from person to person, so it seems we’re stuck with money for the foreseeable future.
