On Friday, September 19, before the sun rose over Dinuba, the sound of music, cheers and school spirit filled the gym at Dinuba High School. The campus hosted its annual 5 A.M. Rally, a tradition that has brought the community together for more than six years.
The event initially began when ABC30 News ran a “Morning Match-up,” where rival schools went back and forth, hosting televised rallies. The event has since shifted to spotlight one school at a time after some teams declined to participate. Dinuba kept the tradition alive, turning it into a unique showcase for the school and community.
While the rally once took place outdoors on the football field, it now fills the school gym, where the packed stands and echoing cheers create an even louder, more energetic atmosphere. Students showed off their pride as the cheerleaders and bands kept the energy up with early morning performances.
Teachers and staff say the rally isn’t just for students, it’s something that brings the whole city together. “I think it’s important because it’s nice for our community to see what’s going on as we’re on TV,” said Mrs. Tobias.
The early timing plays a significant role, too. With thousands of people tuning into the morning news before school and work, the rally gives Dinuba students a chance to showcase their spirit to those across the Central Valley.
Sebastian Guzman, one of the varsity football captains, said being in the spotlight was a highlight of the morning. “It was exciting getting interviewed for live TV. I think it’s great that I get to have a voice and speak for my team,” he said.
Throughout the rally, students kept the energy alive with chants and cheers, echoing the excitement of a home football game. Regardless of how early it was in the day, students brought their school spirit, whether in the student section, the band, cheer, or any other group, just excited to cheer with Emperor pride.
When the clock hit 7 A.M, ABC30 wrapped up their broadcast, closing this year’s 5 A.M. rally and proving once again how strong and proud Dinuba High stands.
