What is NJROTC?
NJROTC stands for Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp. A leadership development program focuses on helping and developing a person with self-discipline. Lieutenant Brandon states “We focus on developing the individual personal responsibility, self-discipline, community service, it’s overall making a well-rounded citizen to go out into the world to serve others.” There are many opportunities that NJROTC has to offer a student such as leadership, mentoring, traveling, and attending team competitions.
What Are The Opportunities Within The Unit?
There are many chances for leadership within the unit. Being in NJROTC can help you develop your leadership skills and prepare you for a leadership position in the future. Some activities you can do while in the NJROTC unit are community service, being a part of an afterschool team, learning how to use the drill rifle, and common military marching and ceremonies.
Activites The Unit Has Done
Speaking of activities NJROTC has done some recently. The most recent event as of now was Basic Leadership Training. It was on September 14th and 15th. It is a way to build up your leadership skills while having fun! The other most recent event is the Grandview Fair on Friday the 13th. Cadets helped out with the food booths and games that they had. On September 11th cadets dressed in their uniform and met up in front of the main building and held a ceremony in remembrance of the people we lost in the 9/11 attack in 2001. Some cadets gave speeches and people from around the area did as well. Many people came out this year to watch the ceremony. Another event was the flag football game. Cadets dressed in uniform and marched across the field carrying the flags of the 50 states. Cadets beforehand had set up the American flag around the field. This was in honor of our local service members and first responders. NJROTC is known for helping out within the community. The unit helps out in fairs, parades, and local activities.
NJROTC Conclusion
In the end, the Dinuba High School NJROTC is not all about being serious. It is about having fun too. At the end of the year whether you decide to stay for the four full years or not, you will form lifelong friendships and close bonds you never thought you would have. NJROTC appreciates and takes pride in its cadets along with the accomplishments that they make. Many students are able to promote to the next rank within time. Not only that they are awarded ribbons and or medals for accomplishing something in the unit.
