Erin Tobias who is the Activities Director at Dinuba High School (DHS) recently discussed some of the new clubs on campus this year.
“I organize all the clubs, so people come to me with an idea and I just encourage them,” Mrs. Tobias stated. Many of the clubs have been coming through the Miss Dinuba platforms which they have a part in as well. Some of the new clubs that have been announced are Letters of Faith, Daughters of Christ, Impact, and Criminal Justice.
“[The number of] our clubs really went down after Covid. We had a ton of clubs and when we came back from Covid, all those students graduated and clubs were mainly run through and for students,” Mrs. Tobias said.
This month, The Grapevine will spotlight two of the new clubs.
Letters of Faith
In this social and charitable club, you can go and hang out with friends while also making a difference by writing letters to hospital patients. While you’re there a movie may be playing and you have the opportunity to make new friends, all while supporting a non-profit organization that’s all student led. The president and founder of this club, Marissa Rodriguez came up with the idea of this club after she lost a loved one to cancer when she was younger. She got to witness first hand what a negative impact being stuck in a hospital can have on someone and she wanted to do something about it. She believes this club will do that. She said students should join this club because “it’s a club based on companionship to individuals in hospitals. It’s a really powerful organization. It can help a lot of people and it’s also a great opportunity for students to help their academics since they can earn extra credit.” Letters of Faith also has an amazing community service project called Bears for Braver Beginnings. They partnered with Build a Bear to donate bears to Valley Children’s Hospital. This club is looking for as much community involvement as possible. If you’d like to donate they’d really appreciate it. Here’s the link https://gofund.me/65dd2a29. The Criminal Justice Club
Mark Bray who heads up the of Criminal Justice and CSI classes on campus discussed the new Criminal Justice Club. The Criminal Justice Club is for students who are interested in careers in law enforcement or who have an interest in the criminal justice system. “With the amount of clubs we have, I know that students that aren’t in crim (Criminal Justice classes) who still have interest and so that’s why I thought the club would be kind of a doorway to get them involved,” Bray states. The club has activities such as guest speakers and field trips as well. Mr. Bray states, “Anyone who is interested is welcomed. We don’t preclude anybody.” Anyone who is interested in joining this club can email Mr. Bray at [email protected] for more information.
