Alien: Romulus, the newest addition to the Alien franchise is an action packed horror thriller that will leave you at the edge of your seats, Alien: Romulus, takes on a familiar plot of a space crew coming face to face with Xenomorphs while scavenging the deep ends of a space station, Alien: Romulus has many brutal scenes which makes this film rated R for bloody violent content and language. Alien: Romulus takes us back to the roots of the legendary film franchise by showcasing jump scares, Xenomorphs, and intense sequences, But is it worth the watch?
Alien: Romulus is a great horror movie and I recommend it to people who enjoy horror movies and want a good scare. However, if you have kept up with the Alien franchise you may have a problem with this movie. It takes on the same formula as the previous movies even though it does have some call backs to the older movies like the 20th Century logo in the opening, the opening scene where it displays the iconic 1979 film tagline “no one can hear you scream”, the original Xenomorph that was last seen when it was killed by Ripley, and without spoiling anything there is a cool callback to a famous line in the originals . Alien fans have complained that the movies in this series have started to get repetitive due to it having the same plot of scavenging and running into Xenomorphs and having to take them out.
Some positives about the movies are that the creatures look really good and realistic because they are not CGI. The creators used real animatronics to make it feel more realistic and have the jump scares hit harder. Alien: Romulus also has really stunning visuals, and their heavy use of practical effects really made the movie stand out. This movie was great but what really made it great for me was that third act. The final act was some of the best I’ve ever seen from a horror movie, it was incredible and will make your time worthwhile.
Alien: Romulus has many positives. As a casual viewer, I really enjoyed this movie and I recommend it to anyone that has been debating whether to watch it or not.
