Following a second round exit in last year’s Division Four CIF Volleyball playoffs, the Dinuba Varsity girls volleyball team are looking to bounce back in an exponential way to go past last year’s elimination.
Outside hitter Mia Lopez said, “I feel like we have really grown throughout the season. It’s not even league yet and I feel like we’re improving a lot. We had our ups and downs but we always pull through and we accept our mistakes and try to be better.”
So far, Dinuba has a 5-6 record coming off a 3-1 win at home against the Mt. Whitney Pioneers. In a well anticipated match, Dinuba came through for the win as they won 25-21 in the last set.
When asked about the direction the team is going after the result against Kingsburg, Coach Sonny Perez said, “It’s good. We assigned captains a couple of days ago so Ashlee Orozco and Emma Rico are our captains and I feel like allowing them to have a little more say so on the team. We’ll do a lot better.”
Their non-league schedule continues as they play in the Granite Hills tournament. After that, they’ll soon begin league play against the Hanford Bullpups on the 23rd. As we caught up with captain Ashlee Orozco about the improvements she has seen from the team as the season has progressed, she said, “We definitely came together and we get along a lot more since the beginning and we’re growing together as a team.” Dinuba continues to try to string along wins so they can clinch higher seeding from last year’s previous 14th seed.
