On September 18, 2024 Dinuba High School ASB held its annual Boat Regatta. Despite the cloudy, warm weather many students showed up to support their classes and clubs.
Band took first place for getting their boat across the pool the fastest. Andrew Barajas and Ben Camaquin were proud of their showing in the contest. They said, “We feel good. This is our third year winning out of four so it feels pretty good.” When asked if they expected to win they replied, “Kind of, yeah. Our boat was really good, It didn’t get any water in it.”
The second award was the Titanic Award given to the boat that sank with grace and dignity. This award was taken by the class of 2028. When asked how she feels about winning, class representative Dezztiny Cortez said, “I feel happy that we at least won one award, even though we got last place. I’m very honored for our council to have won an award. I expected for us to win at least third because our boat was pretty good but we sank the moment we got in.”
The next award given was the Duct Tape Mania Award given to the boat that demonstrates the best use of duct tape. That award was given to the class of 2026 represented by Ashley Alfaro who stated, “It feels really good, last year we won the same award so it’s kind of the same thing. I think our design was really cute. Our theme was Nemo and I think we really put that design out there.”
The Dory award went to Fusion Club and Nami for “just keep swimming.” Although they’re boats sank, they kept on swimming.
Lastly the Einstein award was given to the senior class demonstrating an “out of the box” boat with their Mator design.
That’s a wrap on the 2024 Boat Regatta, and it looks to be the last one for some time as the new school site will not have a pool to use for this event next year.
