On October 7, 2024, PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric) provided the power at the new high school site and the Alta/Kamm roundabout. The process of systematically energizing the new construction began shortly afterward, followed by running the HVAC systems to condition the buildings. The power poles on Kamm and in the roundabout will be removed within the next few weeks, and by early November, Alta should be open. Many great outcomes are happening!
Science teacher and moving coordinator, Adam Guidi states, “Unless there is some catastrophic event between now and December, these latest updates have increased the probability of moving to near certainty.” Assuming DHS is going to move in January to the new high school, packaging is scheduled to begin after Thanksgiving break for most departments. Industrial tech and science departments may need to start earlier due to the volume of equipment.
Since the update on the new Dinuba High School last month, PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric) company had delayed the service connection from the end of September to early October. The delay created tension to the situation because, as Mr. Guidi explains, “After power is established, 30 days are needed to condition the new construction for occupancy.” Conditionings involve running HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) to stabilize temperature and humidity. The power connection process involves relocating poles and shutting down most (~90%) of Dinuba. On the bright side, DHS was awarded seven Golden State Pathway grants, totaling over $2.5 million. These funds will support many pathways which involve Automotive Technology, Computer Science, Construction Technologies, Medical Academy, Digital Photography, Manufacturing and Agriculture. Mr. Guidi further states, “The Alta Healthcare District grant was awarded to support equipment for the new Emperor Athletic Performance Center.”
At this time, it appear that the move to the new school site is on track and will happen over the winter break, as planned.
