Janice Hoy’s journey to becoming a teacher at Dinuba High School was driven by her deep connection to the school’s culture and Dinuba being her alma mater. Although she has taught in other districts, she finds Dinuba is where she truly belongs, drawn to the supportive and close-knit environment. Over the years, she has developed a strong affection for both the school and the connections with the students.
Mrs. Hoy states that the connections she has made with her students inspire her to continue teaching and have also helped her grow as a teacher. Mrs. Hoy’s favorite part about being a teacher is the opportunities she has to connect with her students. She tries to build meaningful relationships with her students and finds that it motivates her to be a good teacher. She enjoys helping students grow not only academically but also personally in her classroom.
Mrs. Hoy especially enjoys teaching literature, with “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer being her favorite unit for 12th graders and “1984” by George Orwell for her 10th graders. She appreciates how the lessons in the books allow the class to have deep discussions and give the students a better understanding of what they are learning. One of her favorite parts in her career was with the Class of 2010, where she had the opportunity to get to know her students on a deeper level while they were an outstanding class.
Mrs. Hoy’s dedication to her students and her passion for learning makes her a valued member of Dinuba High School. She continuously strives to inspire her students by ensuring they feel valued and understood..”… For the students to succeed, they need to be cared about they need to know that they are important, that their perspectives are important, and that their Presence is important I know that I’m not perfect, but I hope that I can make the students feel that way”
In the classroom, Mrs. Hoy’s teaching approach is more than just learning; it’s about creating a supportive environment where students can grow and feel cared for. Her impact goes beyond academics, as she works to foster a sense of belonging and confidence in her students. Mrs. Hoy continues to inspire the next generation, leaving a lasting legacy at Dinuba High School.
