The new roundabout at Alta and Kamm opened on November 14th. Many opinions and feedback have been provided on what people think about it and how it will affect mornings at the new Dinuba High School site.
The roundabout construction at this location was intended to force drivers to slow down and avoid accidents with students attempting to cross the busy intersection. Science teacher and moving coordinator Adam Guidi stated, “Center dividers running down the length of the school on both Alta and Kamm will prohibit vehicles exiting the school from crossing lanes—all traffic must exit to the right.”
Critics of the intersection revision state that the roundabout will impede traffic flow too much and will do little in terms of student safety. Although there are people who are unsure about this whole situation and opinions are everywhere, some have made suggestions. “Some have suggested building a bridge across Alta, but my understanding is that city officials in Dinuba are not keen on this idea,” Mr. Guidi said. Although building a bridge has been considered, there are no plans to move forward with this at this time.
Multiple delays have occurred in this project, from logistics to issues relating to easement rights between the city, PG&E, and Alta Irrigation. The roundabout was supposed to be completed on September 7th but is now open as of November 14th to allow traffic to flow again before the new school site opens.
