Drama 2’s One Acts played this semester from November 21st to November 23rd. With its theme this year being about a High School Student Body presidential election, seats sold rather quickly and got a few laughs from those in the audience.
The story revolved around two main characters played by Dakotah Rios and Sadie Gonzales. Dakotah played a “skater” boy, and Sadie played the “nerdy” girl. As the skater boy thinks he’s got all of the votes due to his looks, the nerdy girl transforms herself to look pretty by changing her apparel, making everyone like her. As they are running against each other with huge accusations towards each other, Skater boy gets a new manager, pushing away his first manager, to help him win the election. Later on, they find out that the same manager was “helping” both of them to win the election. Many more twists occur before Skater Boys’ first manager enters the election spontaneously and ends up winning the votes for student body president.
The play had all twists, turns, and laughs Drama 2 students strive for. Drama 2 student, Mia Romero explains, “Our setting for the play came from Mr. Villigrana [DHS Drama teacher]. He had the idea of it before school started. We had our fun with it because we decided to add our bits into it.”
The students found a way to make sure that the play had their own creativity and brought laughter to those both on stage and those sitting in the audience.
While the play was originally set out to be serious, the “Puppy Killer” and “Mark Rocha and Scott Simoni” acts were two out of the many funny bits within the show.
Overall, the show was fun for students, families, and staff to see. Both Drama 2 and Drama coach, Pablo Villigrana did everything they could to make sure that the show would draw its audience into the setting and the story that is being told as parts of it connect to what has happened in the past when it comes to politics.
