Dinuba High School has many staff members, from campus monitors to teachers, administrative staff, counselors, assistant principals, and finally, our fantastic superintendent.
One of our assistant principals, Adrian Gutierrez, has been an assistant principal with Dinuba Unified School District for seven years and a high school educator for twenty-one years. Like every other staff member who can be found in the administration building or wandering around campus, Mr. Gutierrez has a passion for helping students in any way that may be needed or required.
Like most of our staff here at Dinuba High School, Mr. Gutierrez started working with students to make sure that they had more opportunities. “Offering interventions has been a source of pride,” said Gutierrez. Academically helping students is something that most staff members strive to do, but Mr. Gutierrez also finds a way to help students outside of the classroom and with things that maybe some students can’t share with other people.
“Our school resource officers have always supported and encouraged me,” When Mr. Gutierrez found himself starting at Dinuba Unified, with that help, just like multiple other students and staff, Gutierrez was able to continue doing what he did all while knowing that there were people out there who would be there to support him.
Everyone has their own opinions about our brand-new campus; for some, it is overwhelming, for others, it’s a fresh start at a brand new place to create memories. While everyone thinks differently about it, there are people, both staff and parents, who find the school has a sense of pride and community within it. And that’s how Gutierrez feels about it: “There’s a sense of pride in community here.”
A hint of remembrance and memory resides in everyone; regardless of who is asked, someone is bound to have a memory they cherish and favor more than any other memory that they have. “My favorite memory would probably be welcoming students back onto campus after COVID,” he said.
As most would know, with the lockdown, school closures, and moving to Zoom meetings for classes, it was a rough and rather difficult time for both students and teachers. With schools opening and welcoming students back onto campus except for masks to prevent students from getting COVID-19, it was a blessing and refreshing to see students roam around campus again. “With the new campus life again, it felt as though the sun was brighter.”
Quotes are words from well-known people that others tend to hold dear and find relatable or motivational. Words from celebrities or famous athletes tend to stick to people the most out of everything. For Mr. Gutierrez, he has one that he holds close to his heart. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” from Wayne Gretzky is the quote that Mr. Gutierrez holds close to his heart due to the motivational aspect of it.
