As the new Dinuba High School has been, for the most part, good news, the cafeteria mob during lunch has been quite chaotic. With very little places to sit and limited spaces to be, our new school is crowded. For the result of it being over crowded, Principle Popp as well as other staff members helped sort out two separate lunch lines. One that goes around the cafeteria and one that goes straight forward.
Various students try to quickly find a table for their friends to sit at. To make it easier, a few stay to save the table meanwhile the others get their food. Students also may leave their belongings also to make others sure that the table is occupied. This makes it stressful for everybody to find a space to sit at and eat. Students with drivers licenses have also been willing to stay on campus for lunch, which makes the cafeteria more overcrowded than it already is.
How did Mr. Popp and staff manage to organize the chaos? The first week experienced long waits in the lunch lines and trying to find a sitting and space around the cafeteria, half of the buildings were allowed to leave for lunch five minutes early. The next day the other half were allowed to leave early. This helped the lines to be less long and we got to find a sitting space easily than having to be rushed. Will this be an everyday routine? Or are they going to start letting legal drivers go off campus when lunch time hits? Lunch is also being given out to students who prefer to hang out outside, but that barely changes anything because we prefer being inside due to the cold weather. The library and lobby play a helpful solution for the students who want to study and do work or get together with their friends without getting overstimulated with noisy surroundings.
What are we doing with all the unused benches sitting at the old high school? There are simple solutions that aren’t being utilized by school administration. There are very few places to sit down and relax on campus, especially in the shade. Students shouldn’t have to be sitting on the floor as it makes the school look unprofessional and it goes against their “college level” surroundings to the campus.
Where are the trash cans? There’s trash all over campus because there’s not enough trash cans around our campus. We shouldn’t have to walk around looking for them; putting them in more reasonable places would make our campus cleaner. Not only would our campus be cleaner, it would also be less crowded with more seats being open without trash all over them. Even so, students should also take more accountability for the trash they leave behind, leaving less work for our staff that cleans up after us. Yes, Janitors are there for a reason, but that doesn’t mean we should leave them with more work on their hands.
