Every person has a story, filled with experiences, challenges , and moments that shape who they are. Deputy Principal Jose Contreras is one of those individuals who is driven by determination and very hard working with a passion which has shaped who he is today and where he stands. But who is Mr. Contreras beyond what the world sees?
Mr. Contreras was born in Los Angeles in 1972 but arrived in Dinuba when he was five years old and was raised here. Mr. Contreras graduated from Dinuba High School in 1990. He stated he ‘’did enjoy being at Dinuba High School.’’ As a student, Mr Contreras was involved in football and wrestling. He would like to see students get involved in any interest they have. He said, ‘’The more involved you are, the more likely/better chances to strive for academic prosper education.’’ He advises students to surround themselves with good influences to become a better version of themselves. He said his mother told him, ‘’I want you to go to college,’’ which inspired Mr. Contreras and started his journey.
He then went to California State University, Stanislaus for an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree in education, PPS (Pupil Personnel Services) credential, and administrative credential. He said the experience made him realize that “I’m smarter than I thought I was!’’ adding that ‘’it was a good choice.’’
He has been working in the district for 18 years now. He started working at Dinuba High School when he was 30, moved to the continuation/junior high, and then returned to Dinuba High School two years ago.
Mr. Contrares is married now and has four grown children and one grandchild. He likes to go to church and stay involved. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with friends and playing golf.
To conclude, Mr. Contreras wants to tell students to ‘’always strive to be the best person you can be. We all fall from time to time, but get back up and make those around you proud of what you are becoming.’’
