The Dinuba High School Emperor’s Marching Band has brought success home from every competition this season, and this year’s annual Pismo Beach Band Review Competition was no different.
Dinuba began their performance at 10:17 a.m. and got started without a hitch, playing this year’s march song, “Cyrus the Great,“ by Karl L. King, selected by Band Director John Domingcil.
Supporters cheered along the crowded sidewalks, filled with the band’s family, friends, and fans. Stepping to the exact beat of their drum captain, the Emperor band marched off to ready themselves for their percussion unit.
Elijah Burris, the percussion director at DHS, created the mashup of popular 2000s songs the group performed, all a part of a new selection created for this year.
Following their performance, the awards were given. Traditionally, all the drum majors from all participating schools, along with captains from ID, Auxiliary, and Percussion, were ready to accept awards. DHS came out on top for several awards, including:
- 1st Place Drum Major Award, collected by Adrian Villegas, his fourth consecutive year at Pismo
- 1st Place Drumline Award, collected by Drum Captain, Caleb Diaz
- 1st Place Tall Flags Award, collected by Flag Captain, Nathalia Rodriguez
- 2nd Place ID Unit Award, collected by Letter Captain, Emmarie Rico
- 1st Place Award for the entire division, collected by Adrian Villegas
Through every mention of Dinuba High School, cheers erupted from family, friends, and Emperor Staff, genuinely proud of this year’s marching band for bringing their A-game for another year and holding up Dinuba’s legacy. For seniors, this competition was one of the biggest and best to look forward to for their final season, and they certainly ended on a high note.
Though Pismo is one of their biggest competitions, it certainly isn’t their last. They also competed on November 8th for their final Band Review in Orange Cove as the Emperor Marching Band closes out the season, performing their final field show: High School Musical.
