There were a handful of trades, meaning a team traded its pick(s) to another team for either a higher overall selection or a lower one. A team might want to trade back to gain more picks in later rounds because they feel that the player they might want to draft will still be there a couple of picks later, leading to getting the player they want, as well as acquiring more selections.
This 1st round had a couple of head-scratchers, most notably the Rams going with ‘Bama QB Ty Simpson. Rams Super-Bowl-winning and current QB Matthew Stafford does not seem ready to retire in the next 3-4 years. There were other positions there that would have helped the team, rather than going for a rookie quarterback who didn’t play that well in college and will now have to sit behind Stafford for the foreseeable future. This dilemma led to a viral clip of Rams Head Coach Sean McVay on the phone with draftee Ty, in which Ty said, “Let’s make history, Coach,” to which McVay responded, “Yeah… no, and hey, enjoy this night, man.”

Great job point out Ty Simpson. Head scratcher indeed.
