The seasons of Dinuba’s Boys and Girls Basketball teams have both come to an end. Both teams reached round 16 but couldn’t deliver the satisfying result of winning.
The Dinuba Boys played against Righetti from Santa Maria at home on February 15th. The Boys came up just short on that day as the score was 58-55 in Righetti’s favor. They played well with strong performances from three seniors, Erick Marquez, Josiah Ochoa, and Joseph Lopez. Marquez put on a heavyweight performance as he had 25 points and 9 rebounds. Sadly, it has come to a close as they finished the season with a 17-12 (.586) record. They had two exceptional scorers with the likes of senior Ochoa, who led the team in scoring with 16.7 PPG and Marquez, who was right behind him with 16.3 PPG. Ochoa ranked 7th in 3 pointers made in California with 112 3PM.
The Dinuba Girls season suffered the same fate as the Boys as they were eliminated in the first round against San Luis Obispo with the score being 58-31 SLO. It was on February 15th at San Luis Obispo, snapping a 13 game win streak that the Girls had. Their season is highlighted by winning the Christmas Classic going 4-0 against the competition. They were led in scoring by Senior Guard Jalissa Espirito as she averaged 17.0 PPG. Sophomore Guard Samantha Gonzalez was behind her in scoring as she averaged 8.0 PPG.
Even though the season for both teams didn’t end in the most curated way, They did have impressive feats in many facets. Jalissa Esprito and Josiah Ochoa both accomplished hitting 1000 points in their high school careers. Josiah Ochoa first hit the mark on January 7th against Sanger West in a 66-42 win, as he scored 27 points in that outing. A week later on January 16th, Jalissa Espirito hit the milestone, as she posted 23 points in a dominant 76-8 win against Lemoore.
