Introduction
Time goes quickly; one moment it’s the beginning of the season, and then in the blink of an eye it’s already approaching the finish line. . A bittersweet moment for all to be close to ending a great season of Track and Field. All the runners, jumpers, and throwers have put their all to further improve throughout the start of the season to now. All for the love and dedication they have for the sport. A well-known quote from Robert Lee Griffin III, who is a former pro football player, said it best: “You don’t play track and field. You RUN IT. That’s why track and field is the ONLY REAL SPORT. Everything else is just a game.”
Training & Preparation
During Spring Break, the team made sure to come together and not let their progress go to waste. Sprinters met up on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 10 AM, while distance runners met throughout the whole week, including Saturday. Dinuba athletes don’t use breaks as an excuse to slack off; rather, they utilize the time off from competitions to strengthen their skills. People who don’t know much about T&F believe that baseless running is the only component to the sport, but that could be further from the truth. To help athletes reach their full potential, coaches put them through a variety of workouts, including repeat workouts, recovery runs, hard runs, cross-training, strength training, and aerobic conditioning. Of course, all that training will only benefit the athlete if they put their effort into each assigned workout. From the results shown in recent meets, one can conclude that Dinuba athletes have been working their butt off each practice, thus obtaining better PR’s and SB’s.
Recent Track & Field Events
As the season has progressed, Dinuba T&F has begun participating in league meets and other prestigious invitationals. League meets are an important part of the season because they contribute to the team’s standing in the league through team scoring. Hence, athletes must sit at the podium to obtain points for their school’s team. Dinuba is a part of the WYL (West Yosemite League), which includes: Hanford High School, Lemoore High School, Mission Oak High School, Tulare Union High School, and Tulare Western High School.
As of now, Dinuba has participated in two league meets and has come up short in both. However, that does not mean our athletes have been underperforming. In reality, many of our athletes have obtained new personal bests in sprints, long distance, jumps, and throwing. The truth of it is that the competition is challenging, but that allows athletes to grow in a competitive environment.
Overall, as the days go on, it will soon be the end of the 2025 Track and Field season, but for now, Dinuba athletes will give it their all with the remaining time left. Athletes have had great moments so far and will likely continue to do so as the season progresses. Track and field is one of the few sports where you compete solely for yourself, with no one else watching. In the events, one sees even their teammates as competitors, but that’s what makes the sport so individualistic. Therefore, the meets and the competitive factor are a great part of the sport, but the people you meet and the friendships are the ones that stick with you forever.
