On Wednesday, 19th, 2025, Dinuba High School held the annual Breaking Barriers event. Breaking Barriers is all about getting to know our peers on a deeper level and connecting as one.  In this event, students from all class levels were brought together to show them they are different in their own ways but alike in their troubles.

There were many activities throughout the day, such as playing rock, paper, scissors, communicating with peers, and getting out of one’s comfort zone.

“Breaking Barriers was super fun and helpful because I got to socialize with new friends and meet new people that I’ve never met, and give advice as an upperclassman,” said student Michelle Moreno. 

After all the giggles and fun activities, it was time for a deeper-level activity, such as sharing hard times with selected groups. Students played the “Step Forward If…” game with personal questions that helped students realize that no one is alone. Being vulnerable played a significant role in these activities. This activity showed that a peer can struggle with day-to-day life, and others may not even know it.

When the last hour rolled around, Mrs. Tobias did not want to let students go home sad, so for one of the final activities, she introduced an encouraging game in which students wrote quotes or words of encouragement and placed a sticker on someone completely random or someone who willingly stepped forward into a vulnerable situation.

Finally, students participated in a fashion show with the theme of “under the sea. There were many laughs and cheering for those who strutted the “runway.”

Overall, Breaking Barriers was a great experience, with lots of socializing, getting out of comfort zones, building bonds, and leaving with a new perspective on people you may or may not know.
