Winter Wishes is an annual ASB tradition hosted right before Christmas. Students are allowed to wish for something for themselves or a friend if they aren’t able to buy it themselves. This tradition began five years ago under our Activities Director, Erin Tobias.
This year Winter Wishes took place on Wednesday December 17, students were handed out gifts during third and fourth period as a part of Winter Wishes.
“One of my CADA friends, an organization that we belong to, did it at their school, and I thought it was super cute,” said Tobias.
CADA stands for California Association of Directors of Activities, and it supports student leadership in California schools.
Students and teachers could nominate their friends or students to receive a winter wish. Mrs. Tobias shared how they pick the gifts based on the needs of the students, such as blankets, socks, and sweaters. However, they also hand out silly gifts to a select number of students, such as candies or toys.
DHS can fund this event through fundraisers organized by the student council. For instance, this year, students sold candy apples, and they used some of the money they received from concession stands. This year, students raised $2,182. Allowing our school to grant around 80 Winter Wishes. Some students were even lucky enough to get two presents!
Advanced Leadership and ASB students handed out gifts during 4th period, spreading the Christmas spirit throughout the halls.
