On April 25th, Dinuba holds its annual Cinco de Mayo pageant, where young ladies from our community have the chance to proudly demonstrate their Mexican heritage. Applications opened in early January and will close by January 28th. 

Interested candidates can apply either online or pick up an application at the school office. All girls, 9th-12th grade, are encouraged to sign up.  There are no requirements besides meeting grade eligibility (having at least a 2.0 gpa). On the application, you are required to provide your contact information, the talent you will be performing, and, most importantly, why you want to join. 

There is no limit on the number of girls who can apply, so anyone interested in joining should apply. 

“I encourage girls to join the pageant because you are being involved in your community, and it’s not just school stuff. It’s the entire Dinuba community,” states teacher and Contestant Coordinator for the pageant, Aniceta Huerta Valdez.  “You can gain so many skills, like communicating and connections within the community.” 

The girls also have a chance to win scholarships through this pageant, with the queen winning a $2,500 scholarship. 

Ms. Huerta shared how winning the Cinco De Mayo pageant has helped her and other girls. She said that she was able to buy a used car and buy some college textbooks with her scholarship money. Ms. Huerta hopes that many girls take advantage of this opportunity. 

The Cinco de Mayo pageant opens up many doors for young Dinuba girls. We hope that all 9th-12th-grade girls take advantage of this opportunity to join the pageant before January 28th. It’s the perfect way to connect with your culture and gain skills for your future.
