As the year is getting closer to the end, Dinuba High School holds its yearly girls’ upperclassmen Powder Puff flag football game. This year, the game was played on April 29th between the junior and senior classes. These girls prepared for two weeks, practicing plays and strategies to go against each other. It took place at the football field at the former DHS site. The concession stand was also selling food, snacks, and drinks for guests to buy and enjoy while watching the game.
Before the kickoff, the band, flag, and letter girls all performed their famous Green Mile, as they do at the boys’ football games during the season. All were focused on this game, coaches, teammates, and family, all ready to see what would go down on the field.
As the game had started, one team had its offensive players on the field and the opposing team had defensive players. They all rotated and switched players in and out every couple of plays. Family, friends, and all loved ones all came together to support their player and cheer them on throughout the game with posters or just their presence.
Players had to pay a $5 deposit before the two weeks of practice started, and then another 20 the day before the game to secure their custom t-shirt with the name of their choice and number. The juniors had a lilac purple shade with a black logo and numbers on it. The seniors’ jerseys were black with a hot pink logo and lettering, making them stand out.
For the first quarter, the score was 8-0 making seniors take the lead for the win, with one touchdown ahead of the juniors. In the second half, the juniors got a hold of a touchdown, making it a tie, 8-8. The seniors caught a hold of one final touchdown, making it 16-8, which was the final score. The seniors took the win and the champion ring, Ring Pops! Cheers, chants, and announcements filled the stands throughout the game! As the game had ended, the seniors took the win, gaining their champion ring, a ring pop! At the end of the game, family, friends, and all came down the bleachers to take pictures with their winning or losing players because that didn’t matter at the end of the day; what really did was going out there and just having fun!
