Although this new campus has been open for only a year and a half, it already shares some of the same issues as the old DHS campus. More specifically, mice.
Recently, students witnessed a mouse scurrying around the lecture hall. This sighting raises a question: When one mouse is seen, does that mean there are more mice on campus? Students have also allegedly seen ants in B building.
While cute, mice can have serious consequences. Mice can spread diseases (like the now-infamous Hantavirus) and carry antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Rodent saliva, urine, and droppings can infect people with these health hazards.
In addition to those dangers, mice can also cause structural damage to electrical wiring, wooden beams, and tear up insulation.
Students seem to have mixed reactions to the mouse sighting.
“I think it’s crazy that the school gets us in trouble for having food in certain areas, and they’re so strict on other rules, but they can’t even keep mice and ants out of their campus,” stated one concerned student.
Another student claims to have spotted mice in the locker rooms.
“I think that it’s disgusting and unsanitary,” this student said. “I think that the school should be doing more to handle the infestation; it feels lazy.”
Will the admin department handle the mice over the summer? Or will the problem worsen over time? Either way, this is a problem that needs to be resolved for students’ safety.
