October Albums
October 2025 was a month jammed with big music releases, from long-anticipated albums to drops that dominated the playlist overnight. This month’s artists across genres gave fans many albums to talk about and to listen to.
Top Charting October Album
Taylor Swift kicked off this month with one of the most record-shattering first week sales since 1991, with 4 million units sold from her latest album ”The Life of a Showgirl.” Despite the success of this album, critics from all forms of media have ruled this album as mediocre to good. The story of this album is Taylor Swift finding genuine love amidst immense fame as she recently got engaged to football player Travis Kelce. One of the key takeaways from this album is its melancholic tone as it’s an emotional core to Taylor Swift.
New Releases
Now into more of the R&B, Bryson Tiller started this month off with his album “Solace & The Vices.” It’s his fifth studio album, which features big names like Rick Ross, T-Pain, and many more. Although the album received mixed reviews, it is praised for its emotional vulnerability and improved melodies, particularly in the R&B production. Then there is Daniel Caesar’s album “Son of Spergy,” which has received mixed reviews, praised for his vocals and soulful atmosphere. Although it does have its faults, including a lack of depth, production sounded identical at times, and features went unnoticed.
On the side of Hip-Hop, not many albums came out from that genre this month that were significant, which caused the first time since 1990 when no Hip-Hop song charted on the Hot 100’s Top 40. Two albums from the Hip-Hop/Rap genre did drop and are from artists who are considered “mainstream.” Those would be Young Thug’s “UY Scuti” and Ty Dolla Sign’s “Tycoon.” Both of these albums were received poorly as both lacked good production and songwriting.
Not just R&B and Hip-Hop dropped, there are, of course, other genres like Alternative and Rock that had big releases. Tame Impala released “Deadbeat,” which is a departure from the band’s signature sound towards a new electronic and dance-focused sound. Though compared to Tame Impala’s other albums, it lacks the inspiration, which leads the album to feel incomplete. On the other hand, the lead singer of The Marias debuts her first album, Not for Radio, called “Melt.” This album has received largely positive reviews, with praise for its atmospheric, dreamy sound, and Zardoya’s presence on the album is her being vulnerable in the songwriting.
