After months of preparation, Drama Director Pablo Villagrana and his drama department ran their latest production, “DHS One Acts: Slam Dumped!” November 2oth through the 22nd in the auditorium of the old high school. Emperor Theatre was excited to show off the hilarious new show!
The show was told in two acts. The first act was about two coaches: fictional versions of Coach Schofield and Coach Bray. The two coaches are on the hunt for a new team player for their basketball team, which currently has only four players. As they look for a new player, they come across some people who seem to have potential but aren’t good enough for their liking, until they come across a young girl who they think is the perfect fit. She’s energetic, passionate, and even quirky.
After the 15-minute intermission, the DUMPED part of “Slam Dumped” began. In the second act, various couples from different eras/years go through a variety of break-up scenarios. The couples broke up through charades, a surprise party, a misunderstood breakposal (a break-up proposal), before prom, during karaoke, before leaving the country, or through a messenger who finds them at Whimpy’s, or even through a musical number. Each break-up was done creatively, even going so far as to have former President Abraham Lincoln write a letter of his own to a soldier’s beloved.
Overall, the production was a hit, and the drama department has much to be proud of. Next up is the Spring production of “High School Musical.” Auditions for this production begin on December 3rd.
