On the morning of March 11th, DHS held the 8th-grade Expo, during which middle school students came to campus to learn about the different electives and program opportunities available to them when they enter as freshmen this coming school year. 

The event lasted the whole morning. As they arrived, students were available to come through our campus cafeteria and enjoy breakfast before heading out to look at the stands. 

Many classes, such as Photography, Criminal Justice, Automotive, Construction, Leadership, MED, Firefighting, Choir, Jazz Band, and many more, showed future Emperors the ways they can get involved as they further their education. 

Additionally, there were some other pop-up stands from the U.S. Army, National Guard, and Navy. Students were able to walk through immersive scenes and see what it’s like to work on a Navy ship. Other booths had 8th graders do push-ups or pull-ups to receive prizes.

While some middle school students thought the new campus was “boring,” most were excited, noting that it is spacious and nice. 

We asked some students about what electives they were interested in joining. Here are a few responses: 

“I think I’m going to do welding and Spanish, they look fun and not too difficult.” 

“I want to join the percussion and jazz band, I’m ready to do zero period!” 

“I’m thinking about leadership; it looks like a fun experience.”  

The Expo gave the future Emperors a peek at the greatness DHS has to offer them. 

As the event came to an end, students left with a clearer understanding of what to expect this upcoming year as freshmen. The 8th graders not only got to see our new campus but also got an idea of the new opportunities they have ahead of them.
