This time of year, we hear a lot about the term “Senioritis.” It is most commonly experienced by seniors whenever they feel a lack of motivation towards school. Many believe it is just the feeling of not wanting to go to school or do homework, but it is much more than that.
Senioritis is the feeling of realizing that this is the last year you get to be a kid. It’s the time when you realize that what the seniors told you as a freshman, as you sat through that boring old rally, is true. Time really does pass by faster than you think. Freshman year drags on; you goof off, thinking you have plenty of time till graduation. Time passes, and all of a sudden, it’s senior year.
Senior year is when you start to face the realization that you are not a kid anymore; it is the last year as a teenager. Your last Christmas, last New Year’s, last birthday as a kid. The dawning realization that you should have done more in high school causes seniors to feel a lack of motivation towards school.
The lack of motivation also comes from the exhaustion a senior feels. Senior year is full of constant applications and deadlines. Applications for college open near the beginning of the first semester, meaning students are constantly working on them until the deadline. Another deadline to worry about is homework. Seniors are constantly battling deadlines during the first semester of senior year. Between college and scholarship applications and homework deadlines, not to mention the seniors who play sports, they have to juggle a busy schedule. It’s a stressful year for many seniors; it’s no wonder they begin to feel senioritis as the end comes into view.
While not all seniors feel this way, it is a common experience. Though it is also important to remember that, for whatever reason, you feel a lack of motivation towards school, you need to stay on track. For seniors, the year is almost over, and graduation is just around the corner. Don’t let the case of senioritis get to you. Finish the year off strong!
Begin with the end in mind.
