On Saturday, April 25th, the annual Cinco de Mayo Pageant was held at the old DHS (now DIS) auditorium, with the theme “La Fiesta de Cumbia.”
The night opened up with a cumbia dance number from the contestants, along with the 2025 queen, Paula Moreno.
From there, the constants performed their talents, which consisted of slam poetry, monologues, singing, and folklorico dancing. In addition, the potential queens also had a gown competition, where they posed on stage, showing off their beautiful gowns, and the host shared with the audience each contestant’s hobbies, interests, extracurricular activities, and goals for the future.
There would also be entertainment provided from various dance groups (such as Queen D’s Dance and Los Monte Lobos Dance Group), past royalty, and last year’s queen. Past Royalty from the years 2021, 2024, 2018, and 2006 were also present and introduced themselves to the audience, and also provided entertainment for the audience while the contestants got ready for the next section.
The contestants were asked impromptu questions about various topics such as issues today’s youth face, the Battle of Puebla, and community questions. Each potential queen answered her question swiftly and graciously.
Before the winners of the pageant were announced, the 2025 queen, Paula Moreno, had a farewell walk and thanked everyone for the wonderful past year. The host also shared with the crowd the “godparents” of the scholarships, which consisted of many local businesses and clubs. Then the winners were announced:
